2003 Woman of the Year Winners
Women's Equality Day
was celebrated in the Pittsburgh Region on August 26, 2003.
In conjunction with this annual observance,
the "2003 Woman of the Year" contest was held.

PROFESSIONAL:

Professional Woman of the Year

Winner - Jean Langbein, MSW
Social Worker on the Blue Team of the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, University Drive Division. Jean introduced a new patient orientation program for Women Veterans and developed a risk assessment program for these women. Jean is being congratulated by Debbi Zamberry, chairperson for the FEB Women's Program Committee and is seen with Patty Hayes, Women Veterans Manager for the Regional VA System.


Dr. HubiczDr. Hubicz

Finalist - Bonnie Hubicz, D.O.
Medical provider and leader of the Primary Care Purple Team, at the Highland Drive Division of the VA Pittsburgh Heathcare System.
She also has the largest enrollment of a single provider of medical care for Women Veterans.
She is seen with Tammy Rosenberger, charge nurse.

STAFF SUPPORT:

Staff Support Woman of the Year

Winner - Katherine Astleford, CPS, CAP
Program Analyst, US Army Corp of Engineers
Became proficient with all job requirement within six months of joining the Corps, then developed processes and procedures to improve administrative effectiveness. Vice-Chair of the USACE - Pittsburgh Federal Women Program and EEO/Special Emphasis Program Committee.

TECHNICAL:

Technical Woman of the Year

Winner - Lisa Chasko
Physical Science Technician, NIOSH
Involved in realistic mine rescue and smoke training exercises. Assisted during recent emergencies such as Quecreek, Somerset county rescue. Co-inventor of a lighted rescue team lifeline which has been submitted for a patent.

TRADES & CRAFTS:

Trades and Crafts Woman of the Year

Winner - Cynthia L. Baum
Survival Equipment Technician, US Air Force Reserve, 911th, Air Wing
Part of a team that designed and implemented a plan to support Iraqi Freedom Mission. Holds FAA certification to pack-rig two different types of parachutes.



PERSON OF DISTINCTION:

Roberta Jones

Winner - Roberta Jones
Recently retired from the Social Security Administration,
she was a FEB Women's Program Manger for many years.
